Product Description

Irish Apothecary's Own Brand
100% Pure Essential Oil

Certified Organic

Cinnamon Bark Oil is a member of the Lauraceae family. This oil has a warm, spicy scent that is slightly herbaceous. It is classed as a middle-base note and blends well with citrus, floral, spicy and woodsy oils.

Cinnamon bark essential oil offers a rich, warm, and spicy aroma that evolves from a sharp, pungent top note to a deeper, more complex middle note, and finally settles into a sweet and earthy base note. Its scent is reminiscent of holiday baking, warming spices, and exotic markets, making it a popular choice for aromatherapy, perfumery, and home fragrance applications. Use it to create a cozy, inviting atmosphere or to invigorate the senses and uplift the mood.

Top Note

  • Initial Impression: The top note of cinnamon bark essential oil is spicy and warm, immediately evoking thoughts of the spice itself. It has a sharp, pungent, and slightly sweet scent that is invigorating and stimulating.

Middle Note

  • Heart of the Aroma: As the initial sharpness mellows, the middle note reveals a deeper, richer warmth. The scent becomes more complex, with a robust, earthy undertone that still retains its spicy character. This phase is often more rounded and smooth, providing a comforting and cozy feeling.

Base Note

  • Long-lasting Foundation: The base note of cinnamon bark essential oil is characterized by a lingering warmth and sweetness. It has a slightly woody, resinous quality that gives the aroma depth and longevity. This phase is where the oil's richness truly shines, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and earthiness.

Overall Characteristics

  • Warm and Spicy: The overall aroma of cinnamon bark essential oil is dominantly warm and spicy. It’s a powerful scent that can be quite intense and must be used sparingly.
  • Sweet and Earthy: Alongside the spiciness, there is a sweet, almost vanilla-like undertone that adds to the oil's complexity. The earthy base notes anchor the scent, preventing it from being overwhelmingly sharp.

Descriptive Analogies

  • Holiday Baking: The aroma is reminiscent of holiday baking, with the spicy warmth that fills the kitchen when cinnamon is used in cookies, pies, and other treats.
  • Warming Spices: It can be compared to the blend of spices in a hot mulled cider or spiced tea, where cinnamon's warmth is both inviting and invigorating.
  • Exotic Markets: Imagine walking through a spice market where the air is thick with the scents of various spices, with cinnamon standing out prominently due to its distinctive and familiar aroma.

Usage Contexts

  • Aromatherapy: Cinnamon bark essential oil is used in aromatherapy for its energizing and invigorating properties. It can help improve mood, reduce feelings of fatigue, and enhance focus.
  • Perfumery: Due to its strong and long-lasting scent, it is often used in perfumes and colognes, especially in oriental and spicy fragrance profiles.
  • Home Fragrance: It is popular in candles, potpourri, and room sprays, providing a warm and inviting atmosphere, especially during the colder months.
  • Massage and Skincare: When properly diluted, it can be used in massage blends to warm the skin and relax muscles, though it should be used with caution due to its potential for skin irritation.
  • Culinary Uses: While not typically recommended in essential oil form for culinary use due to its concentration, the scent of cinnamon bark oil is closely associated with the spice used in cooking and baking.

 History

Ancient Origins:

  • Early Use: Cinnamon, derived from the inner bark of trees from the genus Cinnamomum, has been used for thousands of years. Its origins trace back to ancient Egypt, where it was highly prized. Archaeological evidence suggests that cinnamon was used as an incense, flavoring, and medicine.

4. Distillation and Essential Oil Extraction:

  • Introduction of Distillation: The practice of steam distillation, which allows for the extraction of essential oils, became more common in the 16th and 17th centuries. Before this, cinnamon was used in its whole form or as a powder.
  • Essential Oil Production: With the advent of modern distillation techniques, cinnamon bark essential oil became more accessible. The oil is extracted from the bark of the Cinnamomum verum (true cinnamon) and Cinnamomum cassia (cassia), the latter being more commonly used in essential oil production.

Usage

This pure essential oil is undiluted, unadulterated and created just for you. It can be used in your diffuser (3-5 drops, depending on diffuser size, for whole water capacity), in your skincare, applied directly on the skin (patch test first), 15 drops per 100ml with good filtered water to make a mist or as you please. It is very effective with the tunnelling method or for an instant energy change.

When we diffuse an essential oil, we passively ingest the molecules in the air. As they enter our bloodstream, we are benefitting from the intelligence and healing properties of the oil.

Close lid tightly during uses. If you are using your product with the pipette on frequent usage, ensure the pipette is empty when placing back into your product. It is best to store your pipette separately if not in frequent use. This will prevent your pipette from degenerating and your oil evaporating. It is advisable to patch test product before use. Keep out of direct reach from children. Store in a cool dry place. Take necessary precautions when using other medicines.

A 100% pure essential oil wouldn’t typically be used on an oil burner as its medicinal healing benefits will burn off. We would use a fragrance oil on an oil burner as it blooms with heat and evokes the sensory organs for you to respond and feel a certain way. They can be found
