Irish Apothecary's Own Brand
100% Pure Essential Oil
Citronella oil is a member of the Poaceae family. This oil has a fresh, woody-sweet fragrance and is classed as a top note. Citronella blends well with camphoraceous, citrus, herby, floral, minty, spicy and woodsy oils.
Citronella is antiseptic, antispasmodic and is widely known to be an insecticide. It is most commonly used in today's world as an insect repellent. It is also used as a cleaning product.
Organic citronella essential oil, derived from the leaves and stems of the citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus or Cymbopogon winterianus), has a distinctive and refreshing aroma. Here’s a detailed description of its aroma profile:
Top Note
- Initial Impression: The top note of citronella essential oil is bright and sharp, with a strong, fresh, and zesty citrus scent. It has a clean and invigorating quality that is immediately noticeable and stimulating.
- Characteristics: The initial aroma can be described as crisp and tangy, reminiscent of lemon or lemongrass, with an energetic and uplifting feel.
Middle Note
- Heart of the Aroma: As the top note fades, the middle note reveals a more rounded and herbaceous character. The scent remains citrusy but gains a slightly earthy and grassy undertone.
- Characteristics: The middle note offers a balanced blend of citrus and herbal qualities, creating a more complex and nuanced aroma that is still fresh but less sharp than the top note.
Base Note
- Long-lasting Foundation: The base note of citronella essential oil is subtle and less pronounced. It carries a faint, woody and slightly sweet undertone that lingers after the more vibrant top and middle notes have dissipated.
- Characteristics: This base note provides a grounding effect, adding depth to the otherwise bright and lively scent profile.
Overall Characteristics
- Fresh and Citrusy: Citronella essential oil is predominantly known for its fresh, citrusy aroma, which is both invigorating and cleansing.
- Herbaceous and Earthy: Alongside the citrus notes, there is a noticeable herbaceous and slightly earthy quality that adds complexity to the fragrance.
- Crisp and Uplifting: The overall scent is crisp and uplifting, making it a popular choice for energizing and refreshing environments.
