Mandarin Oil is a member of the Rutaceae family and blends well with camphoraceous, citrus, herby, floral, minty, spicy and woodsy oils.
Organic mandarin essential oil’s intricate aroma, with its blend of citrusy, sweet, floral, woody, and warm notes, makes it a versatile and cherished essential oil for a variety of aromatic and therapeutic applications. Its bright and invigorating top notes, balanced by soft and juicy middle notes and grounded by warm and mildly woody base notes, provide a refreshing and comforting experience that is both uplifting and soothing.
Top Notes:
- Bright and Citrusy: The initial aroma of organic mandarin essential oil is vibrant and citrusy. It captures the sweet, tangy essence of freshly peeled mandarin oranges, providing an immediate burst of freshness.
- Sweet and Fruity: Alongside the bright citrus notes, there is a distinct sweetness that sets mandarin apart from other citrus oils like lemon or lime. This sweetness gives it a more rounded and mellow initial scent.
Middle (Heart) Notes:
- Floral Undertones: As the scent develops, subtle floral undertones emerge, adding complexity and depth to the aroma. These floral hints are delicate and complement the dominant fruity notes, enhancing the overall fragrance profile.
- Soft and Juicy: The middle notes maintain the juicy, ripe character of mandarin oranges. This juicy aspect makes the oil smell almost edible, reminiscent of a freshly squeezed mandarin juice.
Base Notes:
- Mildly Woody: The base notes of mandarin essential oil are soft and slightly woody, providing a gentle, grounding effect that balances the initial bright and fruity top notes. This woody aspect is subtle but adds to the oil’s overall depth.
- Warm and Comforting: There is a warm, comforting quality in the base notes that adds a soothing finish to the overall scent profile. This warmth makes the aroma feel more inviting and pleasant.

History
The history of organic mandarin essential oil is rich and varied, spanning thousands of years and multiple continents. From its ancient origins in Southeast Asia, where it was valued for its medicinal properties and cultural significance, to its introduction to the West and subsequent cultivation in Mediterranean and American regions, the mandarin orange has become a globally cherished fruit. The extraction of mandarin essential oil, through methods like cold pressing and steam distillation, has evolved over time, making it a key component in aromatherapy and natural health practices. Today, the demand for organic mandarin essential oil reflects a broader trend towards sustainable and environmentally friendly products, ensuring its continued popularity and use in various applications.
Ancient Origins:
- Native to Southeast Asia: The mandarin orange (Citrus reticulata) is believed to have originated in Southeast Asia, particularly in regions such as China, the Philippines, and India. It has been cultivated for thousands of years, primarily for its sweet, aromatic fruit.
Cultural Significance:

- Symbolism: Mandarins were often associated with good fortune and prosperity. During the Chinese New Year, it was common to give mandarin oranges as gifts, symbolizing abundance and happiness.
Introduction to the West:

- Arrival in the Americas: Mandarins were introduced to the Americas in the mid-19th century. They thrived in the warm climates of Florida and California, where they became a significant agricultural crop.
Essential Oil Extraction:
- Traditional Methods: Historically, the essential oil was extracted from the peel of the mandarin orange using a method called "cold pressing." This method involves mechanically pressing the peel to release the oil. Cold-pressed mandarin oil is known for its vibrant, fresh aroma.

This pure essential oil is undiluted, unadulterated and created just for you. It can be used in your diffuser (3-5 drops, depending on diffuser size, for whole water capacity), in your skincare, applied directly on the skin (patch test first), 15 drops per 100ml with good filtered water to make a mist or as you please. When we diffuse an essential oil, we passively ingest the molecules in the air. As they enter our bloodstream, we are benefitting from the intelligence and healing properties of the oil.
Close lid tightly during uses. If you are using your product with the pipette on frequent usage, ensure the pipette is empty when placing back into your product. It is best to store your pipette separately if not in frequent use. This will prevent your pipette from degenerating and your oil evaporating. It is advisable to patch test product before use. Keep out of direct reach from children. Store in a cool dry place. Take necessary precautions when using other medicines.
A 100% pure essential oil wouldn’t typically be used on an oil burner as its medicinal healing benefits will burn off. We would use a fragrance oil on an oil burner as it blooms with heat and evokes the sensory organs for you to respond and feel a certain way. They can be found here.
